ANU celebrates Foundation Day
Vice-Chancellor (in-charge), Acharya Nagarjuna University, K.V. Rao, on Sunday said the university would carry on the legacy of lifelong learning and renewed focus on rural development issues enshrined during its formative years. Focus would be placed on quality research and independent research, he said.
Speaking at the 35th Foundation Day celebrations of the university at H.H. Deichmann & John David Auditorium, Dr. Rao said throughout the 35 years of its existence, the university had never shied away from reaching out to the poor and needy.
The university, which started on a humble note as an extension centre of Andhra University in 1975, is now ranked among the best in the country serving the academic needs of some of the progressive districts of the State.
Dr. Rao thanked professors, philanthropists, and social activists who played a role in moulding the university. “Thanks to the generosity of people and the government, the university now has a solid infrastructure, including schools of classical studies,” he said.
Introduction of professional education on the campus was an important step, which had set the tone for future development, Dr. Rao pointed out. A sizeable pool of international students was adding a new dimension to the university.
